The problem with futurists…

Posted by Rich...! on April 16th, 2009

… is that they spend so much time looking at the future that they invariable ignore the past, and present.

I recently sat through an awesome presentation by Wolfgang Grulke from FutureWorld. It really was great, however I was struck by the fact that stuck on the bottom of every slide was a bold statement: Copyright 2009: All rights reserved:

I have a few problems with this, firstly because a lot of the content was taken from the web, such as the Cadbury’s “Gorilla” and “eyebrow” ads (surely not their propriety content), as well as the above displayed Heather Small video. Secondly, because this model - for presentations specifically, is archaic. Tools like slideshare, and the TED talks have made this so.

To return to my opening statement. This slide suffered from the legacy trap, we do things because, well, we always have. George Bernard Shaw was only half right. it’s not enough to ask “why not?” - true innovation and new thinking stems at looking at the things we take for granted, and asking, “why?”…!

10 things better than Twitter and the iPhone

Posted by Rich...! on April 8th, 2009

Inspired by my mate Paul Jacobson’s tweet, I thought I’d compile a wee list.

1 - Watching hot girls accidentally fall down, or anyone really.

2 - Snowboarding / Freebording.

3 - Any activity that ends with me having sex (I find that the less time I spend on Twitter/iPhone, the more I get).

4 - Reading things that have more than 140 characters.

5 - Laughing so hard I fart a little

6 - Peanut ginger chicken

7 - Driving with the lid down - and tunes up

8 - My kids. Yours… maybe not so much.

9 - Not being wrong.

10 - Sliced bread (having it)…!
